The Trinity is something that's hard to comprehend from our earthly understanding and as human beings.
You must have faith to understand the Trinity. The word Trinity is not found in the Bible but as Christians
we know it exists. We believe that there is a Trinity that consists of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
because scripture tells us so.
The Bible tells of how God has revealed Himself and appeared to people like to Abraham, his descendants,
the Israelites and so on. Over time, God foretold through the prophets that one would come who would bring
blessings to people and would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:6. Centuries later, a child named Jesus was born to the virgin Mary in Bethlehem. At age 30 Jesus
began his public ministry and amazed people with his healing miracles and preaching. He also claimed to be
the one foretold about in the Old Testament which angered the religious leaders of that day. On several
occasions they were ready to stone Him for making such claims. Jesus often talked about His Father in
heaven who had sent Him into this world which then says that God is no longer one person but two at this
point. Then before Jesus was crucified he introduced a third person called Counselor or Helper or the
Holy Spirit who He would ask the Father to send in His place.
In this study we will look at the relationship that exists between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
called the Trinity. There are not three separate Gods but there is only one God who exists as three
distinct Persons. This may be confusing because we wonder how can they all be 3 separate persons, yet all
are one?
A good illustration of this would be like comparing the Trinity to an egg. An egg has 3 parts, the yoke,
whites and shell but yet it is one egg. Another illustration is that a female is one person but yet she
could be a Mother, a Daughter and a Wife. Or a male could be a Father, a Son and a Husband but yet one
person.
Let's use another example. Let's say that water represents God. If we were to freeze water it would
become ice. And since ice is solid, let's say it represents Jesus the Solid Rock. Now lets heat that
water up and it'll take on a new form, a transparent steam, which we'll say represents the Holy Spirit.
Water can become 3 different forms . . . liquid, ice and steam, but yet they are all still 100% water
just as God is 3 different persons. . . God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, but yet they are all each 100%
fully God and equally God. Colossians 2:9 speaks of Christ having the fullness of the Godhead.
The Trinity has 3 parts or 3 persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit but yet it is
one God. All three are equal.
The Father is not the Son or the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not the Son or the Father. The Son is not the
Holy Spirit or the Father. Yet the Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Spirit is God. They are 3
different Persons, not 3 different ways of looking at God and they are all one God.
You could also look at it like this. Each of us has a body, spirit and soul the same as God does. Jesus
would represent God's body, the Holy Spirit would represent God's spirit and the Father would represent
God's soul as shown below.
